2011 Projects

Every year we choose small scale projects run by local communities in different countries across Latin America. This year, we are fundraising for a project in Dominican Republic.

We are in the process of finalising agreements with a chosen organisation in Dominican Republic. More information on what organisation we will be supporting this year will be posted soon. Watch this space for updates!

Why Dominican Republic?

While the Dominican Republic is well-known as one of the most amazing beach destinations, this country has a very different side to it.  With the population of over 9.6 million people, the Dominican Republic is considered one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. The tourism industry has been creating economic growth in past decades, however the global economic crisis has affected the growth significantly.

Facts

  • Over 62,000 Dominicans are living with HIV/AIDS (and these are just those that are aware of their infection)

  • Children in the Dominican Republic are vulnerable to malaria, chronic diarrhoea, Hepatitis A and typhoid fever - all diseases that can be vaccinated against and avoided with our help

  • Almost half of the population lives below the poverty line - surviving on less than $2 per day

  • A large number of Dominican girls are trafficked into prostitution and sexual exploitation in Western Europe, Australia, Central and South America, and Caribbean destinations

Help us to change lives of children in Dominican Republic and donate now!
